Wee Cheng's Books — Click To Learn More

Wee Cheng's chief writing interests relate to geopolitics, travel and history, although he had also written about business and economics issues. In 1993, together with Choo Boon Yong and Tan Tong Wee, he published an article "Takeovers & Mergers: Does The Acquired Company Really Benefit?" in the September 1993 issue of the Stock Exchange of Singapore Journal, in which he explored whether corporate takeovers do bring economic benefits to the companies concerned.

Wee Cheng had also written a short essay about Singapore in Southern African Today Magazine published by the South African Department of Foreign Affairs.

In 2003, Wee Cheng had an article "Islands of the Moon - Decay & Illusion in the Comoros" published in the US online publication 2003 Soboka Mainline Anthology (Diacritica Press). Wee Cheng's articles have also appeared in various travel writing sites or portals, such as Bootsnall, 2camels.com and thingsasian.com.

In July 2004, Wee Cheng had a Bintan trip report published in the QLRS, titled "Cakes And Gods Across Historic Waterways."

Wee Cheng's first book, "The Greenland Seal Hunter - Travel Tales From Distant Lands", was published in October 2004. This was followed by "Hot Spots and Dodgy Places" in 2009 and "Exotic Places and Dodgy Places" in 2010. His journey through West Africa, "Voodoo Kingdoms and Dodgy Places", was published as an eBook in 2012.

More Press Coverage (2011 - 2016)

In March 2011, Wee Cheng's wanderlust was featured in the Nanyang Chronicles, published by Nanyang Technological University. On 3 Jun 2011, he gave a talk about his books and travels at The Arts House, formerly the Old Parliament of Singapore.

In Sept 2011, Wee Cheng was featured in FHM Magazine, which is the sort of an alpha male's trashy read, with questions like which country has the hottest women or what's the weirdest thing you have ever popped into your mouth. In Nov 2011, he was invited to a panel on the Singapore Writers Festival.

In 2015, his travels were featured in the Macedonian magazine Nekade, as well as a chapter in the book "Chasing 193" by Lee Abbamonte and Ryan Trapp. In Jan 2016, he was invited to his alma mater, Raffles Institution, to talk to JC Humanities students about career, travel, and the philosophy of life.

The 10th Anniversary & "Super Globetrotters"

2017 was the 10th anniversary of Sgtravelcafe. Asia361 interviewed him in February 2017, a feature later syndicated by Yahoo Asia.

The Straits Times published a 2-page spread on 29 April 2018 about the "Super Globetrotters" of Sgtravelcafe, including a video interview online. He was also interviewed by NomadMania in December 2016.

The Podcast Era (2020 - 2024)

During the pandemic, Wee Cheng appeared on Every Passport Stamp, Counting Countries, and The Radio Vagabond.
